How to Get Rid of Period Cramps And Get Period Pain Relief

It’s that time of the month when your hormones are starting to wreak havoc on your well-being and sanity again. Though some women go through their monthly period without as much as a mild case of cramps, some really have it the worst. Bloating, irritability, headaches, and yes, painful cramps are just some of symptoms that make these few days difficult to bear. If you suffer from period cramps, don’t lose hope. You don’t have to endure the agony of battling period pains. These useful tips can teach you how to get rid of period cramps!

Period Cramp Relief Tips

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Use hot water bottles and hold it to your stomach.
  • Tampons make your cramps worse. Opt for a napkin-only day at the very start of your period. Also hot tea/soup & a heating pad. Lay on your back with a pillow under your knees/thighs so your lower back/sacrum are neutral.
  • Relax while your on your period.
  • Lay down, breathe deeply, and relax. Push on the area it hurts slowly like massaging it.
  • Elevate your legs by using a pillow.
  • Put a hot water bottle (wrapped in a towel)or heating pad on your stomach or back, where ever the pain is. Some people benefit from this therapy.
  • Try to distract yourself. The more you concentrate on them, the more pain you will feel, and the more will come your way.
  • Put a warm cloth on the area of the pain.
  • Try different methods of standing, sitting or lying down until you’re comfortable.
  • Take Ibuprofen as directed.
  • Get a soft cushion and place a hot water bottle with a cover on top of it. Scrunch into a ball and hopefully it will stop those nasty cramps.
  • Lay down under about three covers with a cup of water next to you, and try to get some sleep.
  • Lay on your stomach and try to get some rest or distract yourself until the pain is less painful and drink at least four bottles of 500 ml a day. Water helps calm cramps.
  • Take two ibuprofen and two paracetamol, have a hot bath, wear loose fitting clothing and relax. If pain persists use a hot water bottle to ease the pain.
  • Eat bananas or any other potassium-rich food.
  • Lay down and drink water.
  • Do the cramp stretch by lying facing down and gently pushing up with your arms for 30 seconds.
  • Take a nap.
  • Take a paracetamol, or two if necessary, and take a nap under a nice and warm blanket.
  • Try to be more active and get your mind off of it.
  • Eat a banana. The potassium may help.
  • Hold your stomach in as deep as possible…. Or press hard on it with something e.g. a pillow, even your hands.
  • Be sure to exercise.
  • Drinking warm chocolate milk can help your menstrual cramps.
  • Take 1-2 over-the-counter menstrual cramp tablets (such as Midol or a generic equivalent.)
  • Tighten your hamstrings for 30 seconds while taking deep slow breaths. Rest for 10 seconds between every 30 second interval.
  • Take an iron supplement if excessive bleeding occurs.
  • Peppermint tea works wonders on helping ease cramps.
